What is the very best way to get through the holiday season? With some strong spirits of course! Whether you are dreading all the family time or looking for a way to bond, a trip to a tasting room (or 4) is a great way to make time spent with your relatives fun! You can even bring home a bottle to keep the party going or to give as a unique gift. Get in the holiday “spirit” with a trip to one of Frederick’s popular distilleries!

Located in Downtown Frederick, Tenth Ward Distilling Company forges offbeat spirits by experimenting with unconventional ingredients, recipes, and aging techniques. The owners love to tell the story of Frederick’s deep history in booze and the “tenth ward” of the 19th century. A behind the scenes tour of the facility is a great way to start a visit. The heavenly smell alone will convince anyone to sample their whiskey!

Right around the corner is Dragon Distillery, a true haven for anyone who embraces their inner nerd and loves a good drink! The owners here love everything a little bit off-beat; science fiction, fencing, dragons, etc… A tour of the operation showcases hand-crafted, premium, artisan spirits using locally-sourced, natural ingredients. Vodka, gin, and moonshine are available to sample and take home.

If you have walked along Carroll Creek Park recently, you have no doubt noticed the renovation in progress near the library. After much anticipation, McClintock Distilling Company will open to the public on December 3! Housed in a building that survived the epic flood of the 70’s, McClintock uses organic grains to produce spirits that are milled in-house. Check out this incredible building with a tour and taste their sustainably produced gin and whiskey.
