Red Shedman Farm Brewery & Hop Yard is located on over 200 acres of Frederick County farmland. The new farmhouse brewery in Mt. Airy cultivates several varieties of hops on the property, has a fifteen-barrel brewhouse and a tasting room that seats 85.

Vic, Anthony and Eric Aellen founded the brewery after Maryland passed House Bill 337 last spring, allowing farm breweries the ability to become licensed as beer wholesalers. The law went into effect July 1, 2014. Master Brewer Vic Aellen had been brewing beer for a long time in Michigan, and when the law was passed, decided to return to Frederick County. “It seemed a great time to come home and brew great Maryland Beer,” Vic said.

Red Shedman cultivates several varieties of hops including Cascade, Columbus, Chinook, Nugget and Crystal. Visitors can enjoy 4 oz. flights or 16 oz. pints, lite fare and big screen televisions in the cozy tasting room, year round. Growlers and kegs can be purchased to go. The brewery also started canning several of its brews in 2014.
