Frederick on Tap – Enjoy the best of Frederick’s Hops & History

Arrive in Historic Frederick, Maryland where you will begin the day by exploring the Frederick Visitor Center. The site of an old spoke factory, this building offers wonderful exhibits, an orientation film, "A Turn of the Wheel", and plenty of time to stretch your legs. A complimentary welcome reception, along with refreshments will be provided for your group upon arrival. Depart with your guide for the day.

Many of Frederick’s earliest settlers came from Germany. We all know that Germans love their beer! Visit the Schifferstadt Architectural Museum to learn more about German life in Frederick. One of America's finest examples of German colonial architecture, the 1758 stone house is one of the earliest known homes in Frederick and has several unique architecture features.

Visit Monocacy Brewing Company for a tour and tasting. Named after the river that flows through Frederick County, the Monocacy Brewing Company produces up to 20,000 barrels a year when operating at full capacity. Monocacy Brewing Company brews its own lines of beer as well as Brewer’s Alley’s retailed beers.

Travel a few blocks in the historic district to Brewers Alley’s Restaurant. Choose from two entrée selections and enjoy a brew of your choice. Steeped in rich history, the first residents of Frederick held a lottery to raise money to build a town hall and market house on this location in 1765, which was completed in 1769. This structure served its purpose for over 100 years and was witness to the birth of Frederick as a city.

Travel the picturesque countryside of Frederick County via the historic National Road. Arrive at Red Shedman Farm Brewery & Hop Yard. Located among the rolling hills of Mt.Airy, on over 200 acres of farmland, they cultivate several varieties of hops including Cascade, Columbus, Chinook, Nugget and Crystal.

Finish the day by touring and tasting at Milkhouse Brewery at Stillpoint Farm where diverse activities help sustain small farming in Maryland. At Stillpoint, the owners believe that by offering a wide variety of products, activities and services on their farm, they can help others maintain the family farm tradition that is disappearing so rapidly in Maryland and across the country.
